SEO is dead for a number of reasons. First, it has been killed, as most things are, by people that abuse the system. Those claiming to be experts building thousands upon thousands of erroneous backlinks to sites that offer no value to the searcher hoping to make a quick buck have ruined it for the rest of us.

Because of this marketing buffoonery Google and the rest of the search engines have made an effort to change search engine results to focus on different set of criteria. Social cues as well as content strategies are become more and more important to the search engines and will continue to grow as time goes. This way the SERPs will be influenced by what your friends or friends of friend’s value on the internet rather than just an algorithm based on backlinks.

While SEO might be dead internet marketing lives on. For the rest of we know what SEO is all about. It is building a following around a strong set of content to maximize sales, traffic or whatever else you or your client measures results by. This means that SEOs, or what we now call ‘organic marketing strategists’, must be increasingly more creative.

We must leverage all possible networks, social media outlets and non-traditional marketing channels to succeed. Creating unique engaging content that will draw readers and in and make them want to tell their friends about it is key. This was you can your brand can become more well know and you can increase your organic traffic at the same time.

We must offer social sharing at every turn of our websites. So, if a user really enjoys our content he will have every opportunity to click a +1, tweet, like or other share to tell their networks. We must reach out and guest post to share our expertise to other groups of readers. The more content you put out the more likely you are to get found.

It may not be as easy as it was before where you could just do keyword research, build links and voila! There is now a more methodical, honest approach to the game that is starting to resemble Public Relations rather than SEO. This is a welcomed changed by some and some are disappointed that they will have to learn new strategies but remember, true talent rises to the top in life and internet marketing. So, keep on working, be creative and know that if you do thing correctly you will be rewarded with great rankings!
