After Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus early this year, Samsung has upgraded its first tablet PC Galaxy Tab 7.0 with a second version. Called the Galaxy Tab 2, the new gadget will be Sammy’s first tablet with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The new upgrade to Samsung’s iPad original killer Galaxy Tab comes in Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi+3G combo models.
Unfortunately, the new Galaxy Tab 2 has received a lukewarm response from reviewers. The gadget keeps up the almost the same innards of its 18-month old predecessor with little differences. When it comes to processing, multimedia and connectivity capabilities, the Galaxy Tab 2 does offer no game changing features. When compared to the new technological advancements, the new Samsung tablet is a small fry.
Galaxy Tab 2 is to advance with a 1GHz dual core CPU, 1GB of RAM and three internal memory options; 8GB, 16GB and 32GB. Plus, the device features a MicroSD slot to expand storage capacity up to 32GB with external memory sticks. The tablet sports a 7-inch WSVGA PLS TFT screen with a better 1024 x 600 pixel resolution.
Advantage with Galaxy Tab 2
The advantage with Galaxy Tab 2 is that it runs the Ice Cream Sandwich, the recent update to Google Android. In addition, the tablet touts Samsung’s Android user interface TouchWiz UX. Samsung, which brought out Galaxy Nexus, the first ICS-based smartphone, is a bit late to announce a much-wanted tablet on Ice Cream Sandwich.
The small Samsung tablet will mount a 3-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front camera for video calling. For connectivity, the device features Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 3.0 and a USB 2.0 port. Being a small size tablet and set to compete with the likes of Amazon Kindle Fire, Galaxy Tab 2 should come with rich sources for contents.
Samsung’s different hubs like Music Hub, Reader Hub, Game Hub and Video Hub promise better content on the device. Reader Hub offers more than 2.3 million eBooks, 3000 magazines and 2000 newspapers. Video Hub features more than 1000 movies both for rent or purchase. Along with user reviews, trailers and others, Video Hub is a great place for users to enjoy films. The Game Hub will let users play various titles on the web.
The Galaxy Tab 2 is a tiny device that measures in at just 193.7 x 122.4x 10.5mm and weighs at 344 grams. The device gets power from a Li-on 4000mAh battery that ensures longer life. The Korean firm is all set to launch Galaxy Tab 2 in the U.K in March for an undisclosed price tag. There is no word on the international and U.S. releases of the tablet. Of course, cellular service providers will be selling the tablet with data contracts since it features 3G.
