Google Notebook, a service that lets you take notes is becoming obsolete. Google had stopped development on Google Notebook in October 2008. But the service continued to run until recently, even though there were no new developments being made in it. But now, Google Notebook doesn’t let you create new notes and encourages to export data to other Google Products like Google Docs.

Today when I logged into my Google Docs Account, I was amazed to find a list of documents that I had never created with Google Docs. Taking a closer look, I learnt that they were all imported from my Google Notebook. All the information there is intact as on the original notebook in my Google Notebook. I can continue editing the note on Google Document the way I like.

When I login to my Google Notebook and try to create a new Notebook, it displays a message saying that I can no longer create any new notebooks or save any edits from now on. Google Docs provides an even better interface for editing notes but the functionalities may not be on par with a standalone note taking tool like Google Notebook. However, if you are in love with note taking applications, you can try others like Evernote.Your Bookmarks made via Google Notebook will remain intact and can be accessed from http://bookmarks.google.com. All your notes will be available on Google Docs.
