Since the public beta launch of Gmail, many people have switched to it as their primary email from Yahoo, Hotmail and other email services while some still prefer to stick to the previous ones. Well you can customize Gmail in such a way that you’ll be using Gmail and at the same time healthily reading your messages in Yahoo and sending on behalf of your Yahoo address without even opening it.
Your old friends know you by your Yahoo ID but you barely use Yahoo these days because you find Gmail much customizable. Besides there are many plugins available in the Gmail labs that let you translate Emails on the fly, cancel sending an email, accessing Docs and more. Don’t be so mean to your good time friends. You can exchange words with them without having to go to Yahoo. You can simply use gmail for sending emails on behalf of your Yahoo ID. Login to your Gmail Account and then click on Settings. There you’ll see an option saying “Add another email address”. Clicking on it opens a new window where you are prompted to enter your alternate email address. Just Enter your Yahoo, Hotmail or any other Email ID and click “Next Step”. Finally click on “Send Verification”. Now login to the email account that you just entered in Gmail and click on the confirmation link sent to you. Clicking on that verifies that the alternate email ID belongs to no-one but you. Now go to “Compose Mail” in Gmail. You’ll find a new drop-down added in your interface where you can choose your Gmail, Yahoo or any other ID to send mails from.
Now what should you do to get the messages in your Gmail Inbox that are delivered originally on your Yahoo account? To get any mail forwarded to another account, the prior should have a POP3 support. But the free version of Yahoo doesn’t have POP3 support. So you just open up IzyMail which gives you a free POP3. Register for an account giving your Yahoo account’s credentials. Then enter your Gmail address in the Email Forwarding Options and you’ll receive a confirmation email in your Gmail Inbox. You can also set the frequency for checking emails inside IzyMail.
This can also be done in another way too: by importing Yahoo with the Gmail’s Collection Engine. Register as said above in IzyMail. Then go to your Gmail account’s settings page. Click on Account followed by Add another Mail Account. Enter your Yahoo ID in the new window that opens up and then your Yahoo credentials in the following page. In POP3 server enter in.izymail.com, enter 110 for port and uncheck the box saying “Always use a secure connection when retrieving mail”. Then Gmail will verify your Yahoo email ID. Thus IzyMail helps you use Gmail for reading your Yahoo emails.
I have mentioned this trick only for Yahoo in the above two paragraphs but you can use this for your Hotmail or AOL account as well. For your ease, you can create a Filter inside Gmail for filtering the emails received from your Yahoo, Hotmail or AOL account into a separate folder. You can also use all these tricks mentioned above for multiple accounts. So use Gmail for reading Yahoo emails or sending on behalf of your Yahoo ID making it your All in One universal email ID.
