Microsoft Word despite being the top notch Word editing application encounters some errors at times. How annoying is it when you have to type out your homework and MS Word wouldn’t open at all and instead throw errors? If you are a frequent user of Word, you must have come across such a problem when Microsoft Word doesn’t open at all. Well it can be due to many reasons. If you want to get rid of Microsoft Word start up errors, here’s how you can do it.
A number of errors can show up when Word fails to launch which throw messages like run-time error, subscript out of range, Compile Error in hidden module module name, Cannot display the template add in template is not valid template nam, Word cannot open this document template template name etc.
Most common cause of these errors is an incompatible add-in residing in one of your startup folders. So basically, fixing this add-in does the trick in most of the cases.
Do do this, first close Microsoft Word or any other Office applications. Now Open the Run command box by pressing Windows + R key and go to the following path.
Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Startup
The above location is for Office 2007. If you have Microsoft Office 2010, you will have to replace Office12 with Office14. Similarly, for Office 2003, Office 2002 and Office 2000 go to the following folders respectively.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Startup
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Startup
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup
The next step is to copy the files that are in the folder to your desktop or on the desktop itself.
Next, open the following folder,
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup
Now as done with the earlier folder, copy all the files from this folder to the desktop. Now Restart Word and your error should be gone.
Thus, if your Microsoft Word isn’t opening due to certain errors, this trick will help you fix it.
